COPYWRITER

Even as a child, I clearly did not like to be interrupted while reading!

I was once a purposeful but meandering fish with varying sea-changes, as currents carried me over time: as the daughter of a successful Fisher Price toy designer, then as a young English grad and songwriter, then as a longtime commercial and video producer, and now as a professional web designer and copywriter. But in retrospect, it's all been under the same sunlit surface: storytelling.

I received my English degree at a time that staying up dark nights writing papers about Dostoevsky was joyful and all-encompassing. I had stacks of books, random notes and soliloquies covering my bedside table, floor, and makeshift desks. I used everything and anything as bookmarks: ribbons, plant leaves, bird feathers. I placed them between pages like streams of gold and copper.

But the degree also led me to a career writing copy for hundreds of production bids, marketing e-blasts, web copy, articles, social posts, and a marketing book that won a Gold Addy. I have written for diverse and wide-ranging clients, able to seamlessly change voices for each audience to which I speak.

Do I use AI? Only in certain circumstances, especially if the client requests it. But never, ever as a finite output. AI will never replace a genuine, unique voice, and these days, most audiences can tell when they are being addressed by ChatGPT, Claude, et al.

My view? Stick with a genuine voice and you’ll always capture the attention - and heart - of the reader!

SHORT STORY

It was New Year’s Eve, just a couple of weeks before the pandemic hit, and I was in Rome, Italy for a solo trip. I’d just had a celebratory bourbon in a noisy little café and was walking back to my hotel to watch the fireworks, when I came upon this musician playing Bohemian Rhapsody on a dusty cello. He was melancholy and serious as he arched his bow in the chilly air, his scruffy dog curled like a comma on his instrument case. The street itself was quiet, and I sang along softly as he played the “Mamaaaa, oooooh” section of the song. It was a moment I would never forget, a connection across continents.

VIDEO SCRIPTS

ATLANTA JEWISH FEDERATION - The AJF approached Artifact when I was Executive Producer. They needed an Explainer Video to tell the story of their new initiative called “Front Porch.” They had no script or storyboard, so I met with them several times to interview their leadership and members, and then wrote a friendly and welcoming script that told the story of community and partnership with other Jewish Federations around the globe. This video would be sent out to their current and new members. I also produced/project managed the entire video - from storyboard to delivery. Animation by Paco Vergachette, Jeff Wiener and Kyung Ko.
